5 reasons why sustainable fashion is expensive

5 reasons why sustainable fashion is expensive

1. Material investment is higher-

Sourcing materials that biodegrade with the least amount of impact in their cycle on our planet are definitively more expensive and time consuming.
We source materials that grow from the earth without using much of it’s resources and can go back to the earth without disturbing the cycle.

2. Paying fair living wages-

Believe it or not there are little to no laws actually enforced in the wages and treatment of workers in third world countries that actually produce for most of the fast fashion companies. Whereas in slow and ethical fashion we ensure proper working conditions and standard living wages.

3. Quantity hurts-

Production in small batches or making clothes to order increases the overhead cost distribution per item thereby driving per item cost up. But we don’t want to produce in mass quantities and then push sales or dump unsold items in landfills.

4. Quality over Quantity-

Slow and sustainable fashion essentially making clothes that sustain you over a period of time. They are made with care and materials that last longer so you essentially get more wear out of them.

5. It is not expensive-

It is just the right value. Might be a contradictory opinion but fast fashion has led us to believe the cost of the shirt is only 1000Rs. Whereas cutting corners has led to that price. Unfair wages, Cheap materials, clothing with harmful impact on the planet is what is actually expensive.
